Connotations of TV News starting sequences

Rushing graphics:
The rushing graphics connote a sense of urgency and that what we are about to be told is important and we will be told ASAP.
(See clip 6:08)

Transparent objects or eyes:
The transparency connotes that the what we are being told or shown is purely what is happening and that it has not been tampered with or changed in any way and that the audience are getting "clean news".

The world from space:
We often see a shot of the world or a globe-like object which connotes that the news is being covered around the whole world and not just whats happening in the UK, it also connotes the use of satellites and technology used to gather the news.

Landmarks from cities:
The landmarks often connote the political importance as well as connoting that the news is international.

Clocks:
The clocks are used to connote urgency and to connote that it is live and that it is happening now so that the audience know that there has been no tampering with what they are being told

Technology and satellites:
This connotes that the studios and news teams are using all of the resources available to them to make sure they get the news to the audience as quickly as possible.

Beat driven, fast-paced music, often involving brass instruments:
Once again this is a tool to connote the urgency of the news with the fast music and the brass instruments that catch your attention.
(See clip)

Male voice-overs:
Stereo-typically a males voice is louder and deeper and gives off a more of an authorative feeling therefore grabbing peoples attention
(See clip)

Metallic blues and strong reds:
These colours are the colours of public offices around the world, showing the seriousness of the news.

Newsreaders:
Newsreaders rarely show facial expressions ant try to stay very "blank" this is so that they don't show their opinions on the story that they are presenting and that they keep it nuetral, it is also to show seriousness about the topic and to show formality. Newsreaders are also usually on screen when the show starts, they don't enter from out of shot they are already there and waiting to give us the urgent news as quickly as possible.
