We produced a 90 second short film to enter into the DepicT! competition. We distributed the product by uploading it onto YouTube and showed it to friends on social media.
There are multiple types of moving image media products like feature lengths, webisodes, animations, etc. There are also various different ways to distribute products, such as social media, cinema viewings, YouTube, GIF, etc.
When filming a moving image product the producer(s) will need a way to fund their creations, there are lots of ways to do this. Commercial funding (ie ITV/C4 - commission others to make programmes - leading to smaller independent production companies arising) For example, "Come dine with me is a television programme that was originally started by ITV but was then taken over by a smaller company called "Shiver" and is now made because C4 pay the company Shiver for it.
corporate funding like BBC (TV license fee). And there are are also big multinationals like Sony who can afford the huge capital invesitment for Hollywood films)
including kickstarter (Kickstarter is a method of funding for film producers where you advertise your idea for your film and people will send money for you to create the film, you repay the funders by giving them perks,e.g. seats to the premiere, posters, etc.) or getting money from private individuals. Some people, fund their own films like Robert Rodriguez for example.
The money raised will be spent on equipment, actors, crew, editing software, security, PA (personal assistant), sound, transport, accommodation, insurance, props and whatever else is needed for your moving image production. A lot of this equipment can be bought or rented, depending on what you are looking for (actors are hired, not bought) actors can be hired from websites such as spotlight which contains thousands of actors from hollywood movie stars to local prodigy's for you to inquire for/to.
Here is a film created using funding from kick starter.
Wish I was here is about a struggling actor, father and husband finds himself at a major crossroads, which forces him to examine his life, his family and his career. And was funded completely by kickstarter.
Epic studios is a media studio with editing suites, live broadcasting areas, is a large venue for screening films, etc. whilst still catering for guests. This is the closest facility to us and it is in Norwich, These studios are full of expensive equipment that is needed to create a film from PC's to micrphones.
For our short film we were provided cameras, tripods, editing tools and sound recording devices by our college as it was for educational purposes but we provided actors, props, costumes and one location by ourselves, we then got sound effects from freesound.org which is a loyalty free sound website, the sound had to be loyalty free due to copyright and freesound is one of many sites that provide loyalty free sound. As we were using Gorleston beach and Daniels house we didn't need to get a location release because we were not causing any disruption or inconvenience to the public.

In a full Hollywood feature length production such as 'Batman Vs Superman' most producers will have a large crew made up of hundreds of people to help make the film from editors to camera men, script writers to security and so forth. Whereas a low budget short film can be made up of three people as we have done for our DepicT! entry because we don't need to make our film as professional. A TV programme such as 'The Flash' may need extra people depending on what it is, for example, the news programmes will need a visual mixer to decide when cameras will be switched,A transport captain will be needed if the programme needs to move location, etc.
In our short film we decided to let Daniel have the role of our cameraman as he has had no experience in acting but had Experience with camera work, Me and Faye took the acting roles as we needed two actors in our production, as for the roles of editor, script writer, storyboards, etc. We all took it in turns to do parts of each.
We had roughly four and a half weeks to create and finish our short film which includes filming, editing and pre-production work, it was a struggle to meet the deadline due to our location being further away than the other groups but I think that we managed to use our time effectively and we managed to finish our final product with a few minutes to spare. If you do not meet deadlines in the world of professional media there is a high chance that you will be fired for unreliability.

Me and Daniel biked down to the beach for our location recce and we already had photos that we could use for our recce of Daniels houlocation recce is a few images of the place you wish to use).

there are financial considerations such as copyright "Copyright protects the expression of ideas and information in material form, e.g. written down, recorded as an image or sound. It does not protect ideas and information themselves. In Australia, copyright applies automatically as soon as something is written down or recorded. Material does not have to be registered for copyright protection. It is good practice to include a copyright statement (the copyright symbol ©, the name of the copyright owner and the year of first publication, e.g. © Fred Jones 2010.) to remind people that the work is subject to copyright and who the copyright owner is." This affected us in the way that we couldn't just copy a media product that had already been made. You may also need insurance for staff, props, etc. Just in case there are any accidents, we were insured by our college as this was a film made for educational purposes.
- Clearance: 'official authorization for something to proceed or take place.' for example, if I wanted to film in a police station I would need clearance from whoever was in charge of that police station to do so.
- Public Liability Insurance:"covers the cost of legal action and compensation claims made against your business if a third party is injured or their property suffers damage whilst at your business premises or when you are working in their home, office or business property." for example if someone passing by is injured by a falling prop, this will protect you against the cost of court.
- Completion guarantee/insurance:A completion guarantee (sometimes referred to as a completion bond) is a form of insurance offered by a completion guarantor company (in return for a percentage fee based on the budget) that is often used in independently financed films to guarantee that the producer will complete and deliver the film (based on an agreed script, cast and budget) to the distributor(s) thereby triggering the payment of minimum distribution guarantees to the producer (but received by the bank/investor who has cash flowed the guarantee (at a discount) to the producer to trigger production). If the product isn't finished, you will not have to pay back all of the money given to you.
Ofcom is the UK's communications regulator. they regulate the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms and mobiles, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.

The BBFC is the UK's regulator of film and video, providing age ratings such as U, PG and 12A. they are a designated body so have legal powers to rate, and sometimes cut or even reject works. They also age rate some online material.
Our entry for DepicT! will not be affected by these regulators because it does not include bad language, indecency, etc. it is also regu;ated through youtube's 'flagging' system which allows viewers to know whether the video is suitable for children.
- Trade unions: an organized association of workers in a trade, group of trades, or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests."TUC" has 51 unions representing 5.8 million workers There are trade unions for most professions from acting to banking. here is a link to a youtube video about the history of trade unions. Many associations are non-profit organizations governed by bylaws and directed by officers who are also members.
