Evaluation/Textual analysis.

Our entry for the "DepicT!" competition is a ninety second short film featuring a pirate and an assassin.

We started the short film with an establishing shot of the beach so that the viewers know where the story is set and so that the viewers gain a greater understanding of  what is happening. We also had the assassin perch on the ledge to add effect.

We then move in to a close up of the assassin perched on the wall, looking across the beach, we used a low angle in this shot to show that the assassin was in power at this point and the grey sky's help to connote that something bad is about to happen because we associate darkness with evil.

We show the title using an over shoulder shot of our assassin on the left and the title that fades in on the right and then falls away, we added after effects to make the title fall and fade when we wanted it to.

The first time we see our pirate is in an over shoulder shot with our pirate facing forward and the assassin walking into the shot behind him. This is also the first time we have dialouge in our short film which had to be added with "ADR" (dubbed in) because the sound quality recorded on the beach was too poor to use in the final product so almost all audio used was added in editing.

We also show our pirate using low angles to indicate that he is also in power, from this the audience may be able to gather that there will be feud between the two characters especially as the sky was constantly dark, connotating that something bad will happen we also use close ups with the characters because in my opinion it indicates who the main characters are.
